The 527’s 24-inch barrel is slender with a diameter of just over half an inch at the muzzle, and the CZ balanced nicely in my hand when holding the rifle in front of the magazine or with it at my shoulder.Īfter firing three boxes of 6.5 Grendel rounds through the rifle, a Lyman borescope showed streaks of copper fouling on the rifling lands extending nearly the length of the bore. The addition of a GPO 4-12x 42mm scope brought the weight up to 7 pounds, 9 ounces. The rifle’s detachable magazine holds five 6.5 Grendel cartridges in a straight stack.Despite its compact action, the rifle weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces. A screw located forward and above the trigger adjusts the pull weight of the set trigger. If need be, pull of the regular trigger is adjustable for weight, creep and overtravel by fine-tuning screws on the trigger housing. Pull was 30 ounces with the trigger pushed forward and set. Pushing the trigger forward until a click is heard sets a lighter pull. The trigger can be pulled like a conventional trigger, and pull weight was 3 pounds, 4 ounces with some creep. The single-set trigger is the CZ’s most prominent feature. However, the test rifle came with Warne rings. The top of the CZ’s receiver is cut to accept included CZ one-piece scope bases and rings. The lever is moved forward to engage the safety and lock the bolt shut, and rearward to disengage the safety. The CZ has a two-position safety on the right rear of the receiver that works backward for American tastes. As a fired case is pulled out of the chamber, it hits a blade at the left rear of the receiver and is ejected. The rim of the cartridge slips under the extractor hook, and the cartridge is held as it is chambered. Like the ’98 Mauser, pushing the CZ’s bolt forward strips a cartridge from the magazine. Reassembling it back into the rifle is a pain in the neck the first few times. The tab promptly falls out when the stock is removed from the action. With the lever rearward, the rifle is ready to shoot.the magazine well. The CZ has a steel, five-round magazine that is locked in place by a spring-pressured tab that protrudes from the right side of 70 inch clearance from the magazine opening. 75 inch wide on the bottom of the receiver ring, and it fits into a mortise in the stock with. In contrast, the receiver of a short-action Remington Model 700 is 8.04 inches long, and its receiver ring diameter is 1.355 inches. The receiver ring is 1.2 inches in diameter. Some amount of figure runs through the butt of the stock on the test rifle, and its oil finish is dull.ĬZ refers to the 527 as a “micro length Mauser style action.” The receiver measures only 6.75 inches from the front to the rear of the tang, and its bolt sleeve is slim. There is no skimping on checkering, with large, point pattern panels on both sides of the forearm and grip. The rounded forearm is 10 inches long and the grip is a fairly slender 5 inches in circumference. Length of pull is 13.5 inches with a half-inch-thick, solid rubber buttpad. 75 inch below the centerline of the bore. CZ describes it as a “classic American pattern” with a straight and fairly high comb that drops only. The American rifle has a full-size stock sculpted of Turkish walnut. Having shot the pair for the last couple of months, the Grendel is a cartridge well-suited to target shooting and hunting game up to medium size, and it’s a perfect fit in the trim 527. CZ took the hint and recently added the Grendel to its American 527. All you can hear is the bullet smacking the steel swinger. I cheched this myself with a MP3 recorder and mic and in person by standing a safe distance behind a barricade ( huge white oak ) from the 6" swinger. When fired even single shot through an AR w/ suppressor these rounds do not make any noise that can be heard at that distance. 22LR.įor SHTF situations this load can easily kill a person or deer size game at 175yds with a head shot. Loads using the PRVI 75gr BTHP-M bullet are pretty impressive compared to a. 223's w/ Hornady 60gr HP 1,050ft/sec ( just for kicks ) that shoot flatter, are more accurate and have more energy at 175yds ( I have a target stand w/ 6" swinger at 175yds ) than the SSS. The Aguila 60gr SSS only has a muzzle velocity of about 950ft/sec with a round nose bullet and I have loaded a few. 22LR round that has the downrange terminal ballistics of a subsonic 60gr or heavier bullet. Actually if I was going to build a suppressed big bore AR I would go with something based on the 6.8 brass and. 300BU/Whisper/etc would be nice but the OP asked about subsonic. If I wanted a suppressed AR I would go with the 300 Black Out.
